How do we celebrate Diwali?

Diwali or Deepavali (Dipavali) is one famous and major India’s festival in the Hindu religion. The word 'Diwali' means lighting lamps and the diya. During the celebration the people enjoy performing and light up their shops and houses with Diyas (a tradition clay Diya), Lord Ganesha is worshipped first for all celebrations for well begin and goddess Lakshmi for Wealth and Wisdom.

Celebration of Diwali

1. Diwali is a row of lighted lamps.

2. During this festival houses are cleaned and decorated with colorful lights and huge firework displays are held while families feast and share gifts.

3. During this festival peoples light up their houses and shops with Diyas.

4. People prepare sweets and other food items for the Diwali celebration.

5. After cleaning the house, in the evening time, they Perform Laxmi puja.

6. To welcome Goddess Lakshmi, they make colorful Rangoli and tie celebration. It is also considered a New Year day in some states.

7. Lamps are kept burning throughout the night.

On Lord Rama's return after fourteen years of exile Diwali was celebrated for the first time. This is the story of Lord Ram and demon Ravana.
