Chokkanathaswamy temple

Dating to the Chola period, this temple belongs to the Chola dynasty believed to be established in the 10th century and is dedicated to Chokkanathaswamy or Chokka Perumal or the Hindu god Vishnu. This temple is engraved with the sculptures and art forms of the Chola period and is one of the oldest temples in Bangalore. Some inscriptions made on the walls even provides the details of the donations made to the temple by some Tamil kings and Mantri's dated back in the 12th century.

Bull temple or Nandi temple

Dated back to the 15th century, the bull temple was built by Kempe Gowda in 1537 and is dedicated to Lord Nandi who is known to be the Vahana(vehicle) of Lord Shiva. This temple is built-in with the art forms and sculptures of the Vijayanagara style. It is believed to be the house of the world's largest idol of Lord Nandi. The idol of Lord Nandi is carved out of a single stone and is being coated with fresh butter(benne called locally).

As per the history, this temple was built to appease one wild bull who use to destroy the cultivation of peanuts and groundnuts. Every year, last Monday and Tuesday of the Karthika Maasa are celebrated as groundnut fair. In this fair, many people come to offer groundnuts and peanuts to their god. The fair is famous as “Kadalekaayi parishes”.

This temple also attracts many tourists all over the year being very near to a garden named The Buggle Rock Garden.

Iskon temple

Kanyaka Parameswaran temple was built in 1989 in Malleswaram Bengaluru and is a fusion of both North and south Indian temple architectures and art forms. Along-with Lord Kanyaka Parameswaran, Lord Venkateshwara, and Sri Kedareswara are also being worshiped here.

Darpana Mandir: This temple is also having a Darpana Mandir situated above the main temple and is equipped with very nice mirror fittings depicting the Nakshatra mandala, Dwadasha Rashis, Dashavatars, and planets. It also contains the mirror fitted statues of Gayathri, Geethopadesha and Vishvaroopa which soothes with special music giving a devotional ambiance to the atmosphere.

Sugreeva Venkateshwara temple

This is one of the old famous temples where “Sugreeva” is being worshipped, Sugreeva was one of the important characters from Ramayana who helped Lord Rama (Avataar of Lord Vishnu (Satyanarayana)) in his quest for saving Sita from Ravana and the Rakshas.

The temple has six feet tall Sugreeva idol who was the king during the days of Ramayana. He is the devotee of Lord Rama.

This temple has its history back in the 15th century, a very famous temple. It is a world-class example of Dravidian style forms and sculptures all over its walls and monuments. It was built by “Shri Chikkadevaraja Wadeyar”.

Gavi Gangadhareshwara temple

Also known as the Gavipuram cave temple, one of the oldest and must-visit temples and was built in the 16th century by Kempe Gowda and is dedicated to Lord Shiva. It is believed that the one who does puja this God will be cured of all eye diseases. Gavipuram Cave temple is an example of exemplary work of Indian rock-cut architecture. It's mysteriously built is responsible for the sun to shine on this sculpture for a specific time of the year.

It also comprises of the idol of Agnimurthy which has two heads, seven hands, and three legs. Followers of the deity Agnimurthy believes to be cured of any kind of eye diseases by offering prayers to him. It is a house of some fantastic art forms on the four monolithic pillars en-carved with the Trishul, Damru and many more.

This temple also contains four granite pillars, two of which are responsible for holding the discs of very big sized sun and moon architectures and the other two hold some Nandi idols.

Many festivals are being celebrated here inside the temple premise in which Makar Sankranti and Maha Shivaratri are most important. The eve of Makar Sankranti witnesses huge crowd as on this day sunlight passes through an arc in between the horns of Lord Nnadi and falls directly on the Shiv-Linga for one hour which lightens up the whole temple thus providing fabulous beauty to the temple.

Halasuru Someshwara temple

Depicting the Vijayanagara era art forms Someshwara temple belongs to the Chola dynasty. This temple is dedicated to the deity Someshwara Swamy or Hindu Lord Shiva. It is the only temple to have “NAVAGRAHA TEMPLE” which holds the statues of twelve Rishis. The mandapa of the temple has 48 pillars each carved with sculptures of Hindu Lords.

    So much information I got from your blog mainly about Nagaeswara temple in Begur is one of the most ancient temples I like the most. There are sayings that after visiting Shiva temple people has to come home and has to clean the feet, is this true??

    Very nice place to spend time with family members. Usually, I visit the Kempfort Shiva Temple whenever I have free time. Very nice place to do meditation also. My Mom and Dad visit regularly, a favorite place for them also. Lord Shiva appears as we are in Kailash, very unique experience. Everyone has to visit at least once in a lifetime.

    Sugreeva Venkateshwara temple is most famous temple in Bangalore city. It was very old temple built around 1650 B.C. Here we can see huge idols of Sugreeva and Vali within the temple complex of Lord Srinivasa, Devi Mahalakshmi.

    I stay near Saibaba temple in Munnekollal. I visit this temple every Thursday and the premises are so peaceful and not crowded like other temples.

    It is an ancient temple in Bangalore,Karnataka.The God statue for main deity is tall and well sculptured.In normal days threre is less cloud and temple environment also very peaceful.

    Nandi temple with huge Ganesha and bull idol. Very peaceful environment.. It is one of the famous Hindu temple in Bangalore and must visit.

    Shivoham Shiva Temple is nice place in Bangalore main city. The statue is very big and feel like we are in Himalayas. The entire temple premises is very peace and blissful.

    Most divine place to visit in Bangalore. The temple architecture design is very nice. I regularly visit the Iskon Temple with my family when ever I get free time. You feel very blissful and get peace in temple premises.

    I have visited Kempfort Shivoham Shiva Temple in Bangalore, Its is one of the famous shiva temples. And its main attraction is shiva statue which is around 60 feet height. And ganesh Ji statue of 30 feet. A must visit place in bangalore, especially on Shiva Ratri.
